Abstract
The study examined the role of the Education Management Information System (EMIS) in the Nigerian education sector, focusing on its effectiveness, challenges, best practices, and stakeholder perceptions. A quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected from 100 administrators and educators across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in Abuja and Nasarawa State through convenience sampling. Statistical analyses, including correlation and regression, were used to examine relationships between EMIS deployment, student outcomes, and institutional management. The findings revealed that while EMIS has the potential to improve institutional effectiveness, its impact on student performance and retention rates is limited. Key challenges identified include inadequate infrastructure, poor data quality, resistance to change, and lack of staff training. However, the adoption of best practices such as continuous staff training, data validation, and stakeholder engagement was found to positively correlate with the perceived effectiveness of EMIS. Stakeholders valued data accessibility and accuracy but acknowledged that these alone did not significantly contribute to perceived system benefits. The study highlights the need for targeted interventions to address implementation challenges, promote best practices, and improve data quality to enhance the overall effectiveness of EMIS. The findings suggest that the successful integration of EMIS in Nigerian educational institutions requires strong leadership support, adequate infrastructure, and continuous professional development. The study recommends enhanced infrastructure, policy alignment, and continuous professional development to optimize EMIS integration in Nigerian educational institutions.
